ITFC. Play offs or better?

Dare we even think about it… automatic promotion?? Yikes, now there IS a thought. I for one would have never thought that we’d be in contention for the play offs, but there we are… fact! It just goes to show what I know about football… bugger all! Well, fingers crossed and rabbits foot in hand together with my four-leaf clover and who knows? The impossible might just be possible.

Dieting and diabetes

I was diagnosed with  type 2 diabetes some eight months ago. This came as a bit of a shock, as I didn’t think that I had any of the recognised symptoms and here lies the cautionary tale of self-deception…

There’s a VERY common medical condition that will lead you to type 2 diabetes and a whole host of other nasty diseases, and that’s the ‘over active knife and fork’ syndrome. None of us sufferers of this common condition really want to own up to being gluttonous pigs, but hey, that’s just what we are! Now that I have lost over 3 stones matters have been brought into a very sharp focus… I was killing myself with food. I was fat. And most worrying of all, I didn’t or couldn’t or wouldn’t see it. Call it delusional, call it dysmorphic, call it what you like… but I truly couldn’t see it.

Now that I have the evidence of the former fat clothes; clothes which I could clearly share with a friend, I am naturally horrified. Do I see enormous changes in myself? Nar, not really. Do I feel ‘any better’. Nar, not really.

Scary huh?

Ipswich – 10 points in each direction

Here we are, eleven games in, in eleventh place and we are ten points clear of the drop zone and ten points clear of a promotion place. Sadly we haven’t won away yet… fingers crossed that this changes, as despite my major doubts around Mick McC’s abilities, we’re not bouncing along the bottom. But what chance of automatic promotion? I’d say nil.

Mick McCarthy idiot or simply Evans’s puppet?

Four games into the new season and we have three miserable points. Seeing Mick McCarthy on Sky before the Leeds game praising himself and the Board for their ‘shrewd’ signings… in other words ‘cheap’ or ‘free’ signings, and how much quality and depth these newbies will bring to the team was utterly galling. And that was before we were hammered at home.

The bottom line is that decent players cost money. Yes, real money. And if we are ever going to challenge for promotion two or possibly three things must happen… firstly, money needs to be found for new players, secondly Mick McCarty must go and thirdly so must Marcus Evans. Ask yourselves this… what exactly has Evans brought to the Town??

Another season of riveting mediocrity at The Town?

Two games in and we have three points. Hmmmm… fingers crossed this isn’t going to be the pattern for the season. Yes, we have made some signings and yes we have the same (yawn!) manager and yes we are all (kinda) optimistic. A finish in the playoffs would suit me, but I suspect it’ll be another mid-table end or worse. I just hope I am wrong! Sadly I have no faith in either the current manager or the Board.

Ipswich Town FC – another season of zilch

So that was the season… we missed the dropzone by six points, the playoffs by eight and promotion by a massive nineteen points. Managers and players came and went and the faithful turned up week-after-week to witness football not of standard played in the Spanish, Italian or German bottom leagues. I just wonder how long this can be sustained? Particularly as a trip to Portman Road is both expensive and not especially entertaining. And sadly this is the story of English football.

Touch and go and The Town

We have six games left and we are but three slim points away from the drop zone. I am not sure that we’ll survive as it’s touch and go right now. I have NO faith in either the manager or the owners; the owners have consistently let us down having recruited one lame manager after another. If we go down, we are doomed and I very much doubt we’d come bouncing back. We are gazing into the abyss and as far as I can make out the deluded faithful that turn up week after week at Portman Road seem to think everything will be fine. I have my doubts! I really do!!

Ipswich Town FC – are we going down?

It is now clear that the Directors made yet another disastrous error of judgement when they appointed Mick McCarthy. Here we are with another nine games to play hovering just above the drop-zone. McCarthy, like his predecessor is clearly not up to the task in hand and should be shown the door now. Likewise the Directors and Marcus Evans need to seriously consider their positions. Sadly the fans seem to tolerate failure as a fact of life and rationalise away the club’s failures as ‘bad luck’. It is high time that the fans made it clear that McCarthy and Evans and his cronies should leave… and quickly!

Today we have Bolton at home. Nothing short of a win will do.

Ipswich – Not out of the woods yet

The Town are but four points off the drop zone and we are far from out of the woods. We face three tough league games and then (yawn!) Villa in the Cup. I’m sure the bean counters are rubbing their palms together at the thought of a Cup run, personally I hope we are knocked out quickly and can therefore concentrate on the important matter of staying up.

I remain unconvinced by our new manager. Oh, I sincerely hope he’ll do the dos for us, but his track record isn’t that great and I’ll hold off making a judgement until February when, if we are not WELL CLEAR of the drop zone, I’ll be suggesting he falls on his sword.

Not a great start

Mick McCarthy’s reign as the new manager hasn’t got off to the best of starts. Thrashed today six nothing at Leicester leaving us one point off the bottom of the table and with a goal difference of minus 25. If he hasn’t managed to get us well clear of the drop zone by the beginning of March, he’s going to have to go.

Personally I think that Clegg and Marcus Evans are at the root of the club’s problems. Since their arrival we have sunk deeper and deeper into the mire and I sincerely hope that the fans will voice their disapproval if, and it is a big if, McCarthy doesn’t sort things out. I for one, am not holding my breath. McCarthy wouldn’t have been on my list of suitable replacements for Paul Jewell.
