Ipswich 1 The Gooners 0 – a Jewel of a performance!

The Tractor Boys did the unthinkable last night and beat the Arsenal at Portman Road. The Town put on one of the most spirited and determined performances I have witnessed in a long, long time. The Town’s midfield and defence was rock solid and highly organised against a full strength Arsenal and all this with half the first team either cup-tied, injured or suspended. If the Town had a weakness it was upfront, playing with a lone Priskin in attack; that said, he did score a cracking goal!!!

Now, has this transformation come about due to the departure of Roy Keane and the appointment of Paul Jewell as his replacement?? I’d say yes, in part. Well, it’s certainly due to the departure of one of the worst managers we’ve ever had and clearly not a motivator. And many of us will recall Keane’s arrogance when he spat out his dummy and launched into a full-on assault of the then manager Mick McCarthy when playing for the Irish national side. Leopards and spots come to mind.

After the match the Town’s caretaker manager Ian (Charlie) McParland was interviewed by Sky and he delivered one very telling comment regarding the change of manager. He said that they won’t have to change much as there’s truly not a lot wrong at the Town. So, was it all Roy Keane? I suspect so and have done for a very LONG time.
